Waaaaaaarriors, come out and plaaaaaaayyayyy

I've had the weirdest experiences playing at Rare. I don't know that I've ever drawn a crowd with any band I've played with there, mostly because our hookup is usually The Smelly Booking Company That I Don't Ever Want To Use Again, Ever. And, yeah. "Hey everybody, we're playing on Tuesday at 11:30. It's gonna kick ass! You should come out." Yeah. Yeah.
I'm excited about this show, though, for a number of reasons; not the least of which being that Rare is a pretty kick-ass goddamned club with the only nice backstage area available to bands that draw, like, ten people. You feel like Dylan back there. And Rare is one of the better sound systems in this city, one of the few where a guy can get in there with his guitar and really fill the room.
I practiced a bunch of stuff last night with Spring coaching me ("No! Play it sexier!") and it's going to be a really cool goddamned set, if I do say so myself. And it's a precursor to an idea I got yesterday for a songwriter circle night called "Songs That My Band Rejected". I have a feeling there are thousands of lead singers in this city who would line up for three blocks to sign on.
So, yeah. A few Ghost Runner songs with new arrangements I've been working up, a few songs that Ghost Runner rejected that I think deserve a new life, and a few murder ballads for good measure. Ooh, and lots of weird delay and feedback and me really singing my ass off, since I haven't gotten to do that in months.
Also, I like those kids Telenovela Star, who go on right after me. I hope they have lots of friends who like to get to their gigs, say, an hour early to unwind. Cheerio.
