Both sides are not the same

Ha ha HA! Get it?? It's funny because yesterday the Democratic party chairman in Arkansas was gunned down, weeks after a right wing lunatic shot up a liberal church! Ha! Still don't get it? It's really subtle humor, which probably escapes you humorless liberals. Ha!

Anyway, on the real son, far Right wing pundits have spent the past fifteen years or so drilling into their millions of listeners/viewers the idea that all of their problems can be blamed on Liberals, Democrats, and immigrants. And if you were to make some sort of connection between that and people beating and killing Liberals, Democrats and immigrants well, damn son, you'd probably be pretty much clinically insane to think something as ludicrous as that. (h/t TMW)

*****

Oh and hey, while I'm being flippant and brief, really John McCain? "We are all Georgians?" Really? We all used our military to crush dissent in our own country in a narcissistic attempt to rally possible Western allies to our side, using fears of World War III as blackmail in our own little regional conflict, with the endgame of increasing our international clout? Because I don't remember doing that.

This is what I hate about American politics, punditry and media. Everybody just wants to know "OK, who's the Bad Guys, who's the Good Guys, who's the Liberals, who's the Republicans? Who does Bush like? Who would be played by Harrison Ford in the movie?" It's just like the shit Reagan pulled with The Contras in the 80's, and we were just that dumb then. The simple fact is there aren't any real good guys in my estimation here, and its nowhere near as simple as John McCain or a lot of pundits are making it out to be. But, y'know, "The Great Russian Bear" and all.

It's creepy. It's like watching conservative pundits get drunk and call their old girlfriends, but it's live on national television and it's embarrassing for everyone.

Really? They block Photobucket at your work? That's lame.

It's a shirt from a Right wing merch store with a Democrat Donkey in the crosshairs. The caption reads, "Got ammo?"

Yeah, I can't see anything from photobucket, or flickr or anything... if I try, a big scary "THIS IS NOT RELATED TO WORK" message comes up on my screen.

And WOW that's unfunny. I didn't hear about that story until this morning, as I isolated myself from the news from about noon til 6am, but yeah...

Just remember, though... guns don't kill people...blah blah fuckity blah.

Yeah, he just as easily could have, uh, I dunno, thrown a big rotary phone. Are we all gonna try to regulate big rotary phones now, just to be PC? That's not what Abraham Lincoln (R) had in mind when he wrote the Constitution.

The gunman said he was interested in volunteering, said Sam Higginbotham, a 17-year-old volunteer at the headquarters, The Associated Press reported.

"That was obviously a lie," Higginbotham said, the AP reported.

God bless people named Higgenbotham who stay crap like this. You are what make it worth my time to read the news.

I like it because, from a reporter's perspective (in the tradition of "I know it sounds dumb, but I can't quote myself - you have to say it"), you can really trust a guy named Higgenbotham. Higgenbotham cannot tell a lie.

Maybe when they reach middle age, but 17-year-old volunteer Higginbotham has too much red hair and acne to suck. He is simply clutzy and mildly incompetent.

"your"

p.s. And by the way, Christasrophe, your fourth paragraph has put some serious 70s singer-songwriter tuneage in my brain. There ain't no good guys, there ain't no bad guys, etc.

I'd actually never heard of this song you just made me Google and, wowee. Let's hear it for the dang ol' 70s. I half expect Linda Ronstadt to come out and start singing in front of Chicago's horn section.

Fear not, my man. Two roads diverged in San Antonio, and I... I took the one to Austin. Though I sometimes I still let my "KZEP Mix" blast from iTunes.

Currently Playing: Heart - "Crazy on You"

Hey man - I just got back from the company gym and I was losing steam on the bench press and I almost gave up and packed it in before I was done with my third set, shaming my whole family.

But then "Blinded By the Light" came on, and I found the strength to go on from somewhere deep inside.

I do not find such strength when they put it on the pop station. It is the sort of second wind that can only come from the opening riff of "Runnin; Down a Dream".

OK, my little punctuation error there is actually pretty cool. I think that "Runnin; Down a Dream" sounds like a decent Kraftwerk song. Whereas "RunninDown/aDream" is seventeen minutes long with three overlapping guitars and sounds like an iceberg and the only words are in Gaelic. I could lift to either of these songs.

Tales of Topographic Benchpresses, eh? Kraftwerk comment cracked me up, btw.

And speaking of "that extra oomph" for the benchpress: check out this song Bushido (lower left corner here (http://crisisbureau.net/)) from my Boston bud's now semi-defunct hardcore band Crisis Bureau. I can't tell you how many times I've been on a last rep, or the last half mile of a long run, and that song has come on and BOOYEAH FLYING PUMPING RAWKING YES.

Manfred Man is pretty sweet, too.

I'm officially a fan of Crisis Bureau. There's just not enough of this shit, man. Not enough that hits the sweet spot (and that reviewer nails it - too many "hardcore" bands either play boring metal or they're a bunch of scenester mannequins with great hair but no chops). This is great.

I wonder about this, too. I hear that Ghost Runner is good running music, and that makes me happy (it's definitely good driving music). But I wonder what the dudes from At the Drive In/Mars Volta would have to say about, like, "Hey! I was totally trying to push my limits on my tricep curls and I thought I was gonna have to drop the thing by the end of my third set, but then 'Pattern Against User' came on and I totally powered through it!" I mean, the guy yells at people for moshing.

Insert multitudes of thesis papers on artists' intent v. audience reception here. Indeed.

Btw, my friend Mike is the vocalist. Intense. And their shows are the loudest thing I've ever experienced.
